I recently aquired a Sansui A-60 amplifier and matching Tuner (black version) at a thrift store warehouse in Reno Nevada…i also bought a Sansui A-3100 with matching Tuner at the same time (it was a very good day!).
I took them home and opened them up for inspection and a thorough cleaning with compressed air, shaving brush, toothbrush, mild cleaning solution for the chassis and Deoxit for all the pots. All units cleaned up very nicely and none showed any signs of corrosion, leaking capacitors, bulging, burns or bad solder areas. I hooked up the A-60 to my Infinity Reference 5 speakers (8 ohms) and an NAD C515BEE CD player (as well as the tuner of course)…The sound was much cleaner and impactful than i expected: this amplifier seems to have a ton of headroom: i tried going up to “3” on the volume which was room-filling sound and the power level meters were barely moving at all…pushing it above 3 to 4 and then 5 was VERY loud and the meter showed almost halfway but nowhere near the upper watt indicators. I realize that the Infinity Reference 5’s are very efficient but its almost as if this amp has 2-3 times the rated wattage and the sound is crystal clear and not fatiguing at all! I’m very impressed!
